Hi!
I'm Karna Humbert and it all started when I hosted my first Uppercase
Living open house in January '08. I am handy with woodworking and a
few of my friends asked if I could make them some boards for
some wall lettering they had purchased. They were hesitant
about placing the expressions directly on the wall. What if
it needed to be moved in the future? What about the seasonal
expressions? I constructed the boards and when we added the
lettering, it became a work of art. My Uppercase Living demonstrator
then came to me with board requests for her customers. Then
another UL demonstrator approached me and thereafter, LadyBird
took flight.
LadyBird serves as an "off-the-direct-wall" resource for vinyl expressions. We began with finished and unfinished boards. Now, we are branching out providing products to show the versatility of the expressions on various surfaces. In our new products section, we have launched a chalkboard surface, acrylic blocks, and other surface variations so that our customers may enjoy exactly what they had envisioned with their expressions.
LadyBird boards (unless otherwise specified) are made of 1/2 inch, lightweight density fiberboard, which is 30% lighter than MDF (medium density fiberboard). Lightweight (not commonly found in big lumber chain stores) has the same smooth surface as MDF but the weight of the boards significantly reduces the overall cost of shipping. Please note that fiberboard is an indoor product and not designed to withstand the elements of outdoor living. Also, due to Mother Nature, slight variations in the wood do occur.
LadyBird products were designed with the busy woman in mind. The boards come in standard sizes, decorative colors, and finished for easy expression adherence to the board. For effortless hanging, there are measured and pre-drilled holes on the back and hangers are included with each board. Our goal is to aid in your sales so we welcome any ideas for future products.
On a more personal note, I am like most of you: I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, etc. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Garth, for 8-and-a-half years. I am a work-at-home-mom and we have two adorable children, Madeline Grace (7) and Owen Wesley (5). They keep us on our toes and thoroughly entertained with their charms and antics. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA (class of '98) and met my husband (a UCSB grad) shortly after graduation. We have lived in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and now we've settled permanently in Murrieta, CA.
