Most LadyBird craft boards are made of "ultra-light" (street name: LDF), a low-density fiberboard made of wood particles and glue. It is 1/2" deep—perfect for the edge detail we apply. The smooth surface is great for applying expressions and it is an easy and fun medium to work with. We special-order it through our local hardware store as it is not commonly found at the big lumber chain stores.
We do our best to process, manufacture, package and ship the product to you in 7-10 business days. If we have the product sitting on our shelves, we can and will get it out same-day. Once the product is shipped, it can take 1-6 days for delivery depending on where you live in relation to Murrieta, CA. Occasionally, we get back-ordered but we work hard to communicate any snafus with the system.
If you have a reasonable deadline, send an email to contact@shopladybird.com following your order and let us know about it. We will do our best to help you out. There are no fees on our part to expedite the order; however, you may choose to pay more for upgraded shipping services.
In these times, most things are a little more pricey, but we're doing our part to keep costs down for. We chose a board material called "ultra-light" that is 30% lighter than MDF (medium-density fiberboard) to make shipping less expensive for customers. When we go to ship your product, we use a shipping calculator to see if it is more economical to use UPS or USPS and choose the service accordingly. Both have tracking numbers available for our/your peace of mind. After analyzing past shipped orders, the shipping fees are fairly accurate and more in favor of the customer...we eat a little of the shipping cost. Our standard shipping services are UPS Ground (1-6 days depending on distance from Murrieta, CA) and USPS Priority Mail (2-3 days). At this point, we do not routinely provide the tracking numbers but if they are available at any time. Just email us and we will get them to you.
LadyBird bases the shipping cost on the total weight of the board order. With shipping, there is the minimum price to initiate the service ($7.75), similar to a long-distance phone call or a taxi ride. As the boards, minutes, or miles go up, the cost per each goes down. Simply put, the more you order the less it costs per board to ship. So, it is more economical to consolidate your orders. If you order 2 boards, the cost for shipping will probably be around $11 ($5.50 ea). If you order 6 boards, your shipping will probably be $17-20 (depending on the weight), and the shipping cost per board goes down to around $3 per board.

Nope. You can still get all LadyBird Craft Boards unfinished. Just go to the Craft Boards shop section and under the "Choose a Color" dropdown menu, select Unfinished.
1. Spray-paint it or apply craft glue with a sponge brush to achieve the smoothest surface.
2. Sand in between coats with 220 or 320 grit sandpaper.
3. Finish with a spray poly-urethane (water-based) in your choice of satin (our favorite), semi-gloss, or gloss.
4. You may also select a fun paper and apply it to the board using spray glue.
5. Apply ribbon around the edges of a blunt cut board with craft
glue.
6. Attach ribbon to the back of the board and hang.
7. Find a fun, decorative knob and use a 8-32 x 1-1/2 hanger bolt to screw the knob into the wall.
No. It would be a conflict of interest on so many levels. But, I do have a UL demonstrator and I just adore her!
